Week 9 10/27-11/2
Between a visit from a city council member, arrests, Halloween parties, and a new game, this week was filled with events to learn from and enjoy!
From the Spark Studio
From Miss Anna: To prepare for our studio for our election next Tuesday, we learned all about government this week! We talked about the leadership roles of those in federal, state and local government, introduced them to elections and voting and even got to learn about taxes (the Parks and Trails Bond will be on our ballot). As we learned about the responsibilities of our leaders (including a visit from a Bountiful city councilwoman), it was humbling to hear the heroes thoughts on what characteristics they thought a good government leader needed to have. Kindness and helping keep our families safe were two points that they talked about a lot. I was curious to see how engaging this week would be, but they absolutely caught the vision for the importance of a healthy government and understood how it affects their lives. And of course we continued our awesome daily work cycles.
We also had an awesome Halloween party on Thursday afternoon! We played games, listened to “spooky” stories (sorry in advance for the “I’m Gonna Getcha, and I’m Gonna Eat Ya” story…), and did a lot of dancing (as always). I LOVE our crew – we all enjoyed each other’s company and had so much celebrating together.
From the Elementary Studio
From Kara: The heroes wrapped up their first case in the detective quest, finding one of their guides to be the one guilty of stealing the chief’s files! Their main suspects are being detained in the photo below. Several have been taking their detective training very seriously and have made the rank of Detective Sergeant. They are learning a lot about the pros and cons of working with a partner on a goal!
From JeVonne:
Listening to the heroes plan their Halloween party was a highlight for me. They experienced the frustrations and realities of a budget and committees. There were a few tears, many real-life lessons and in the end had a great party!
First it was soccer, then dodgeball and now nine square! I love the passion and excitement with which the heroes approach these games. Nine square is a particular highlight of mine as it has allowed the spark studio and the elementary studio to enjoy playing together. I have delighted in listening to the older heroes kindly mentor the younger heroes in playing the game. What a unifier!
Whether it was watching the Spark studio dance around during Halloween chairs or watching the Elementary studio arrest the wrong person (ME!!), these heroes bring us joy in any event!
