Week 12: 11/17-11/19
From the Spark Studio
From Miss Anna: We had a whirlwind final week of our session! One of my hopes with our mastery system was that we’d be able to use it as a framework to start learning about the process of setting and achieving goals. This week, I noticed many of the Heroes cracking open their mastery books of their own accord to get ideas about what they wanted to work on. Developmentally, it’s a pretty complex process to identify a material they want to master, complete all the steps to both learn how to do so and then do it on their own, and stay committed to that process despite many distractions.
We had so many moments of triumph this week after a Hero accomplished a goal. I love seeing and hearing the joy they experience – often going around and telling their friends about their accomplishment. I love asking them how they feel afterwards and seeing that genuine look of pride and purpose on their faces! Learning is exhilarating!
From the Elementary Studio
From JeVonne: Choosing one highlight each week is difficult. The scientist in me loved watching the heroes do their powder analytics lab.
The mother in me thrilled to watch the heroes look beyond themselves and help each other until every one of them achieved the sergeant rank.
The life coach in me wanted to shout for joy as the heroes reported their weekend goals on Tuesday morning: We set daily goals and weekend goals in the Elementary Studio. Each Tuesday morning, every squad reports on the accomplishment of their weekend goals. The heroes vote for which squad won the “goal competition” over the weekend. In the beginning, squads were accomplishing 5/9 goals and 3/6 goals. This Tuesday, some of our tallies were 19/19, 45/54, and 18/19. There is still progress to made in making meaningful and challenging goals, but the growth that the heroes exhibited in setting and accomplishing their goals is exhilarating! When it came time to talk about our week break, every hero wanted to set goals to work on during their break… that was a highlight!!!
Goals are an integral part of everyday life at CHOICE. But perhaps Miss Anna, Kara and I have the most enjoyable daily goal – that is to see the genius in every hero every day! Truly, CHOICE is full of genius!
