5/23-5/26

It’s hard to believe we only have one session left! We are ending the year focusing on the heroes’ passions.

In the Spark Studio… the heroes were challenged to explore their own curiosity this session. Each hero wrote down questions they were curious about. Questions ranged from “Why isn’t my plant growing?” to “Where does the world stop?” We will spend the session exploring their questions. This week we focused on the questions “How many feathers does a bird have?” and “What makes my plant grow?”

Heroes are loving the new art and practical life works. Building vehicles with dry noodles is a favorite. Instead of making a new vehicle each time, heroes are adding onto and making adjustments to their vehicles daily. Creating their own paintbrushes out of various materials and creating fireworks with paint and a scrubber are also favorite new works.

In the Fire Studio… our quest this session is completely created and run by the heroes. The heroes headed towards the middle school next year were each challenged to prepare and run a 2-hour mini quest this session based on one of their interests or passions. This week we created fantasy worlds, learned how to pick locks, and competed in races and games. It’s fun to see one hero’s passion ignite a flame of curiosity in a fellow hero. The older heroes are learning leadership, organization, and planning skills.

Heroes are finishing up badges and celebrating progress during Core Skills. Focus is high as heroes have set their final session goals and are working hard to accomplish them!

Heroes come alive when given the opportunity to discover their interests and follow their passions. Discovering what your interests and passions are is a skill itself. We are excited to dabble in it this session and look forward to jumping in more next year!
