Not a bit! Although the school year is winding down, the heroes are full of energy and are diving into new works, new quests, and new challenges.

In the Spark Studio… Outside time was buzzing with new ideas this week. One hero explored the right ratio of dirt to water to “cover his cake with chocolate frosting.” We made mud paintings and new speciality soups.

Heroes were challenged with a new game. One object from our outside materials was selected and put it in the center of our circle. The next hero chose a different object, but their material had to somehow touch the first material. The next hero did the same, but their material could touch either of the first two materials. By the end we had created a train/house/store. Then we all laid down on our bellies and observed the creation from another perspective. From that angle it looked like we created a garbage can/boat. Heroes have played with these materials over and over again, but with a slight change in perspective it became new!

Inside, the heroes are still fascinated with the noodle creations. Dry noodles were made into a quadruple-decker bus which later turned into a train pulling a camper pulling a houseboat. Some heroes experimented to see if their noodle creations could float. Other heroes experimented with shadows.

Some heroes are anxiously engaged in meeting their reading goals for the year. Their work ethic is inspiring!

On Thursday after reading a true story about a bird who made a nest in a dryer vent, we explored bird nests. Each hero created their own nest. Nests were made for different sized birds and different locations. Some heroes put their “bird” from last week in their nest to see if their bird liked it.

In the Fire Studio… Heroes are anxious to finish their final goals, and IOWA testing is getting in their way 🙂 Still, once a year is good practice to take a test and realize it’s no big deal!

The passion quests led by the oldest heroes have been so fun! It is delightful to watch what heroes create when inspired by their passions. This week we thoroughly enjoyed an emotional wellness quest, a current events debate quest and a ballroom dance quest. Each quest provided different heroes opportunities to step out of their comfort zone, learn and practice a new skill, and have a lot of fun!

The chalk art festival was a fantastic opportunity to combine the heroes outstanding creativity and phenomenal ability to work as a team. As ever, I learned from the heroes as I sat back and observed the planning, voting, decision making and creative processes.

We are not witnessing any petering out, ready to be done, or winding down in the studios! Heroes are working hard and having fun to the very end!
